The main aim of the conference will be to demonstrate that mining and tourism industry can develop simultaneously for the benefit of the European regions. The conference presentations will provide several examples of active mines in Europe that can be found close to a national park or for example in the middle of ski resort

As well as direct wealth creation from mining and value-adding to mineral products, the minerals sector has a much broader impact on society through employment in services and infrastructure development. In active mining regions in Europe, the extractive industry can have a strong impact on the development of the area by providing growth, prosperity and by creating well-paid jobs which lead to increased tax revenues and further diversification of regional economies. The people of these regions feel proud to be providing the raw materials for countless downstream manufacturing sectors in Europe.

The venue of this conference couldn’t be better; Cyprus represents a country with very long mining tradition and highly developed tourism industry. The local experience from Cypriot mining industry will be an important contribution to the conference programme.
