Jan Moström elected Euromines President

Jan Moström, President and CEO of LKAB Europe’s largest, and globally the most sustainable iron ore producer, is to be the new President of Euromines from 1 January 2023.

“Europe is at a crossroads and needs to urgently take the right decisions. Shall we continue to outsource raw materials production for the clean and digital transition and raise environmental pressure in other parts of the world? Or shall Europe produce them responsibly? The European mining industry is always prepared to contribute to the supply of sustainable raw materials. We are therefore looking forward to next year, when the EU will define fundamental legislation in the forthcoming Critical Raw Materials Act that will shape the future of our industry”, says Jan Moström as he enters as President of Euromines.

Mark Rachovides who handed over the torch after ten years as President to Jan Moström was elected Vice-President and made President Emeritus of Euromines. Jan Moström emphasized the decisive role Mark has played in shaping Euromines and praised him for his outstanding dedication and contribution to the European mining industry.

“Jan’s experience will help us drive forward our political engagement at this critical moment,” remarked Rolf Kuby, Director General at Euromines. “Jan brings a deep commitment to sustainable mining in Europe and impeccable first-hand knowledge. His rich experience in the mining sector makes him exceptionally well-placed to lead Euromines through crucial years for our industry. Together, we will continue deepening Euromines’ collaboration with a wide network of decision makers – as a trusted industry partner.”

Jan Moström joined LKAB as President and CEO in 2015 and prior to that he was President Mining Operations for Boliden as well as having extensive experience in senior positions in the mining industry.
